Sexy Perfumes Ideas

A sexy perfume puts an essential last touch on your date-night beauty routine. After all, our sense of smell plays an integral role in emotion and memory, key ingredients in the obscure brew that is romance.

Here’s how it all works: The olfactory bulb (which controls smell) is part of the brain’s limbic system, which regulates memory and emotion, explains Erika Shumate, co-founder of luxury fragrance brand Pinrose. We humans are complex beings, and as we collect experiences, our emotional lives become richer and more complicated. “Because scent’s emotional impact is so powerful, it can help create context,” adds Demeter Fragrance Library CEO Mark Crames. “Sometimes scent can give us the clearest and strongest signals of all.”

In other words, the right fragrance worn on a first date, or on the night you first exchange “l” words, can enhance the romantic experience and create a memory that will live in your emotional brain forever.

Obviously, that’s a lot of pressure to put on your date-night perfume choice. So how do you go about the decision? According to Shumate, the most romantic perfumes are historically “floral forward,” and each note evokes a slightly different mood. For example, plumeria and jasmine are “more energetic romantic scents.” Earthier elements like patchouli and tobacco create darker, more sensual vibes.

To make your sexy perfume selection a little easier, we’ve rounded up the best picks for every kind of date. Whether you’re planning a hot night in or a casual day out, let this olfactory guide lead the way.

Best Fragrances on Spring

Ah, spring. The birds are chirping, the sun is (mostly) shining, and you’re gleefully stowing away the wools and flannels that you swaddled yourself in during the dark days of winter. While you’re storing your cable-knit sweaters and fur-lined boots, make some room in the back of your closet for some of your perfumes, too.

Now that the frost is thawing, it’s time to trade the perfumes that reminded you of crackling fires and snow-covered hillsides — or maybe just ones that have been in rotation forever — for ones that are as invigorating as spring itself. To guide you to the perfect scent, we’ve hand-selected the best new fragrances for spring and matched them to your current faves. Keep reading to find your new signature scent.

Got your heart set on a spring fling? This flirtatious fragrance might be the alluring accessory you need. Slightly powdery and ultra-feminine, this update on Victoria’s Secret classic Victoria Eau de Parfum features a mix of floral notes (think: rose), layered over fruitier ones, like apple. Plus, the adorable watercolor-flower-adorned bottle will add some spring flair to any vanity.

Perfect for those of us who like gardening in theory (but when it comes to getting down and dirty, we’d rather be inside sipping a lemonade), Jo Malone’s new fresh scent puts the great outdoors in an adorable green bottle you can enjoy from the great indoors. The Wild Strawberry & Parsley fragrance is a part of Jo Malone’s limited edition garden collection (which also features good-enough-to-eat scents like Carrot Blossom & Fennel and Sorrel & Lemon Thyme). With top notes of peppery parsley layered over slightly sweet berry notes, it smells as crisp and green as a spring afternoon.

Stop and smell the roses — the rose perfume, that is. Tory Burch captures the romance and femininity of that timeless flower with this delicate, yet slightly musk-tinged, rose fragrance.

Great Tips for Flaws Your Date

While we like to think he’ll notice our fabulous leopard print pumps, guys have a different set of priorities when determining if they re hot for you or not. Check out what beauty concerns grab his eye and how to turn an imperfection into your best asset.

We’re all for wanting to look good — heck, we spend our days telling you about the latest, greatest (and not so stellar) in the world of beauty. But then there’s vanity — being obsessed with looks to the point of spending major bucks on stuff that’s supposed to make you pretty. We compiled data on the vanity industry — plastic surgeons, tanning salons and businesses that cater to your hair, nails and skin — to find out which cities are more obsessed than the rest. Find out if you live in a me-me-me city.

There’s definitely more to Louisville than the Kentucky Derby and mint juleps. The city is home to approximately four plastic surgeons per 100,000 citizens (in a town of more than 700,000), and spending on hair, makeup and skin care products and services tops $5.5 million, according to Information Resources, Inc., a Chicago-based company that tracks and analyzes consumer spending trends.

When it’s frostbite weather outside just about 85 percent of the year, it’s no wonder these Minnesotans spend a lot of time and dough their looks. That kind of cold wreaks havoc on hair, skin and nails. At last count (in 2002, the latest Census data available), there were 1343 “personal care” businesses in the City of Lakes, more than a thousand of which were hair salons.

Perfume That Matches on Your Styles

Makeup and clothes tend to get all the attention when it comes to personal style, but above all else, the perfume you wear is most connected to the fabric of your being.

“Fragrances should be about scents you love,” says Demeter Fragrance Library CEO Mark Crames, “and the smells each of us love is a product of our personal experience.” In other words, as much as your memories shape your personality, they shape your favorite scents, as well. Someone who grew up in the Oregonian woods will likely have an entirely different personality — and different scent preferences — than someone who grew up on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

With all the exciting new fragrance releases this fall, it can be tricky wading through the waters to find the fragrance that speaks to you — not only to your personal experiences, but your signature style at large.

That’s where our vision boards come in. Whether you’re an uptown city girl or a sporty adventurer, we’ve combed through the best fall scents to help you find your match. Here, your inspirational guide to finding your trademark perfume this season.

Every Type of Summer Soiree Parfume Ideas

Summer break may be a thing of the past for many of us, but just because we don’t get three months off doesn’t mean our social calendars are less packed. Backyard BBQs, weddings, date nights en plein air … there’s a certain sense of freedom and hopefulness about summer that no other season can match. And since scent is one of the biggest memory triggers, there’s no better way to remember these stolen summer moments between work and other responsibilities than a special summer fragrance.

These new perfumes capture the essence of summer, and pair perfectly with the season’s most delightful moments. From sweepingly romantic florals to sparkling fruits to seductive musks, there’s a fragrance here for every warm-weather occasion.

The vibe: Summer is here, and you’re celebrating the inaugural use of your new grill with plenty of friends and family. The cuisine: classic burgers and hot dogs. This crisp-yet-savory fragrance appeals to that Americana summer vibe. Fresh notes of pear, bergamot, lemon peel and freesia are tempered by teakwood and musk. You’ll smell sweeter than the apple pie you’ve made for dessert.

The vibe: You’re off to the desert with your besties — and ready to Instagram every moment, both music and fashion-wise. Your suitcase is filled with cutoff shorts, flash tattoos and sunscreen, and there’s room for little else. Luckily, this small rollerball won’t take up precious space that could be used to stash your flower crown. The scent: light, airy cotton, which pairs surprisingly well with eau de sunscreen.

Top Beauty Pros Ideas

Our editors braved the scene at Smashbox Studios in Culver City, Calif., to bring you advice from the top hair and makeup pros we met backstage at LA Fashion Week. See what their quick, convenient runway tricks can do for you.

1: HairThe trick to getting that thin piece of hair to stay wrapped around a ponytail elastic is to slide a bobby pin through the end of the small piece and then roll the bobby pin upward toward the elastic (like you would roll hair up in a curler). Slide the pin in under the hair elastic to secure the piece. — Craig Carter, hair stylist

2: MakeupGet this vintage-y, super-rich lip color to last all day by applying lipstick with a lip brush and topping with a coat of translucent powder — three times in a row. It won’t budge. You can top with gloss if you’d like. — Amy Nadine, head makeup artist for mark

3: HairWant this ’40s-inspired loose curl? Curl two-inch sections with a 1-inch curling iron and pin at the scalp. Spray with flexible-hold hairspray and wait 30 minutes. Then remove the pins and comb out — but be gentle or you’ll create static and pouf.

4: MakeupTo make skin glow as if you’ve been drinking 10 glasses of water a day, highlight cheekbones with a frosted off-white shadow.

5: HairEven flat hair can have extreme volume with a few simple steps. Start by misting a styling spray that volumizes (like Paul Mitchell Extra Body Finishing Spray, $14.95, at salons) throughout hair. Then use a small (1-inch) curling iron to create curls all over your head. Let the curls cool completely, then brush hair out and back comb or tease for even more volume. Finish with hairspray.

Give Yourself a Fresh

There’s no time like the fall to make a change for the better. It’s a season of transformation, of transition, of new opportunities and new ways to improve — oh, and new fragrances too, of course.

Because sometimes a fresh start is exactly what you need to propel you to the top of your game, these nine new perfumes for fall will get you in just the right state of mind for the months ahead, no matter what kind of change you’re looking for.

When it comes to attraction, you’re not leaving anything up to chance. You’re confident, in control and you’ve got love (or something like it) on the brain — so why let fate have all the fun? Taking matters into your own hands could be as simple as enveloping yourself in a fragrance so spellbinding it’s practically irresistible. The initial fresh, citrusy aura quickly deepens into an intoxicating blend of spicy florals, but the real stars are the strong, sexy body-heat-activated pheromone notes that make up the base of the scent. See? Instant chemistry.

Because they’re really more like guidelines or suggestions than hard and fast commands, right? This mysterious fragrance takes on a life of its own as soon as it hits your skin, with a dark, daring vibe that’s basically the olfactory equivalent of entering a smoky speakeasy back when speakeasies were still a thing (as in, a necessary response to Prohibition instead of just a trendy way of tricking you into buying expensive cocktails). It smells like a sexy, sophisticated secret, and it’s completely addictive.

Whats Wrong With The Hottest Guy Cities

One woman’s idea of what’s hot can be another’s what’s not. How can we measure a city’s sexiness if beauty is so subjective? According to evolutionary psychologist David Buss, Ph.D., author of “The Evolution of Desire: Strategies of Human Mating,” women look for a few key qualities in a mate. Along with the usual suspects — love, mutual attraction and personality — women also desire “intelligence, good health, emotional stability, ambition and industriousness, and good financial prospects,” Buss says. We combed through reams of census data — covering lifestyle factors like smoking and drinking, as well as surveys on health, weight, education and income — to find out where the hotties live. Do you live in one of these sexy-guy cities?

Sure, the men of SLC get high marks in avoiding cigarettes, alcohol and other vices that pack on pounds and damage skin, teeth and hair. But this Mormon hotbed also made’s list of sexually active cities. The percentage of men with a bachelor’s or higher degree — about 37 percent — is also high.

Smoking can wreak all kinds of havoc on a man, from premature wrinkles to increasing the risk of balding — not to mention what it does to his breath and the rest of his body. Too much fat and booze cause damage, too. Hotness runs high in Provo because they have the lowest rate of heavy drinkers (.6 percent) and smokers (4.9 percent) in the country, and more than 40 percent of the men hold a bachelor’s, graduate or professional degree.

The Longest Lashes Ever

Just because you’ve bought a great mascara (like one of these top mascaras), doesn’t mean you’ll automatically have perfect lashes. It all depends on what you do with it. That’s why we asked the experts — makeup artist Fiona Stiles, founder of Three Custom Color Specialists Chad Hayduk, andMAC makeup artist Gina Bettelli — for their tricks to getting long, voluminous lashes. With these tips, your lashes will stop people in their tracks!

MAC Makeup Artist Gina Bettelli says there are a few ingredients you should look for in your mascara if you want dramatic lashes:
Soy protein: helps build volume and strengthen lashes. (Try Wet n Wild MegaProtein Mascara, $2.29.)
Acrylates Copolymer: is a film former that enhances lash length. (Try Blinc Kiss Me Mascara, $24.)
Panthenol, Pantethine, and Pro Vitamin B-5: These conditioners (also found in most hair conditioners) are the best ingredients for making lashes stronger and longer. (TryMAC Mascara X, $12.50.)

“To create the illusion of thicker lashes, apply eyeliner to the upper inner rim of the eye. Use a pointed eyeliner brush with a cake eyeliner to apply liner as close to the lash line as possible.” — Chad Hayduk, makeup artist and Co-Founder of Three Custom Color Specialists.

“Finding the right wand is imperative for lengthening lashes — look for a smaller wand with lots of teeth bound close together. This will reach the lash roots and extend the hair as much as possible to lengthen and separate lashes.

One to try: Lancome Definicils Mascara, $24.

A bigger fluffy wand is best for creating voluptuous lashes. The bendable, pliable teeth hug the lash curves and allow many coats to be applied on top of each other.” — Bettelli

Worst Hair That You need to Know

We all have bad hair days, but instead of cursing the mighty hair gods and calling in sick, you might want to consider packing your bags. There are a number of factors contributing to frustrating frizz and dried out strands, but as it turns out it, they could all be due to the city you call home. From looking at national averages of humidity/wind/rain/sun, water-hardness, pollution levels and even the number of salons in the area, has located the worst cities for your ‘do. Did your city make the list?

White beaches might lure you to the peninsula but as one of the wettest cities an umbrella will constantly cover your head. Not to mention it might be difficult to find hip style advice around town, seeing as it’s a top destination for retirees.

Phoenix has the most extreme climate in all of America and hard water to boot! (Put moisture back into your hair with one of these hair masks.

It’s not called the “Pitts” for nothin’. As the most polluted city in on this list, your hair will be calling Green Peace on a daily basis. Pollution has been known to cause premature balding, graying and dullness.
